I have few reasons to complain about the cost and reliability of electricity since I moved to this area. But something that happened recently bothers me.

Does Commonwealth Edison occasionally shut down the power to large areas that are not directly impacted by a storm because the storm messed up their distribution network and it was the only way to get it back in sync?

In Schaumburg, we endured a several-hour power outage that began several hours after storms rolled through. Fortunately, it was the middle of the night. I would like to know why we lost our power. All the reporters tell us is how many people are still without power. I think they should make more of an effort to find out the root causes of a major failure. That way, communities could make better decisions about the costs, benefits and risks of various transmission infrastructures.
