An Elmhurst City Council committee is expected to make a recommendation this week on whether financial aid should be provided to the developer of a proposed $18 million townhouse-condominium project downtown.
The developer, the Renzi/Gammonley Group, contends the project cannot be built without some form of financial aid from the city.
The request came a month after the City Council approved the developer’s plan to build the 74-unit development on what is now the Market Plaza grocery site at Addison Avenue and 3rd Street, but rejected the developer’s request for $625,000 in tax increment financing district funds.
The developer has turned to the Finance, Council Affairs and Administrative Services Committee for help.
