It is a scene that has become a June tradition. Michael Jordan stands center court to accept another championship trophy from Commissioner David Stern. After a few words, it is announced that Jordan has added yet another Most Valuable Player trophy–and the car that goes with it–to his collection.

Friday night, Jordan welcomed teammate Scottie Pippen into this elite circle. For perhaps the first time, Pippen no longer trailed in Jordan’s immense shadow. He stood side-by-side with the greatest player in the game as the Bulls won their fifth title in the last seven years.

“We’re a tandem,” Jordan said. “It’s hard to split us up. It’s hard to take the MVP by myself. I’ll take the trophy. He can have the car.”
