A man drowned in the Fox River Friday afternoon after he jumped off a boat and into the river for a swim.
About 30 McHenry County divers searching the river found the man’s body at 7:45 p.m. after a three-hour search, said Steve Laing, assistant chief with the McHenry Township Fire Protection District.
Police were not releasing the name of the man. He and two other people were on a boat anchored in the river just north of the McHenry County Dam.
“I saw a guy jump in the water. He was swimming and then he went under and never came up,” said a witness, Dan Pancyrz, 15, of McHenry Shores.
A resident along the east side of the river heard other boaters shout for help and called 911, witnesses said.
