You’ll find many uses for this rich coffee-flavored sauce, which ran on May 1, 1956. Serve it over ice cream, cake or pudding.
COFFEE SAUCE
Preparation time: 15 minutes
Cooking time: 10-15 minutes
Yield: 5 cups
1/2 cup each: unsalted butter, packed brown sugar
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 cup strong hot coffee
3/4 cup dark corn syrup
1/4 cup milk
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup whipping cream, whipped
1. Melt butter in top of double boiler over medium heat. Stir in sugar and flour; blend well. Add coffee, corn syrup and milk. Cook, stirring constantly, until thickened and smooth, about 10 minutes. Remove from heat; cool to room temperature.
2. Add vanilla to cooled mixture; stir well. Fold in whipped cream. Store refrigerated in covered container until ready to use.
