When I read that Jim Riggleman was going to flip-flop Sammy Sosa and Mark Grace as the Cubs’ No. 3 and 4 hitters, I realized that facts were being ignored.
Through Friday Mark Grace had 79 hits, but only 19 were for extra bases–60 singles. Seven first basemen had more home runs than Grace had extra-base hits, and I’m tired of hearing about his glove–first basemen are supposed to hit with power.
Bat him second. He is a prototypical No. 2 hitter and has been throughout his career.
