A relay run across the U.S. will pass through Chicago, with a core group of six male and six female runners passing the torch ceremonially to a group of children at Montrose Beach.

The 50-state Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run emphasizes racial harmony and peace in cities as the building block for world peace.

The run was inspired by world-peace advocate Sri Chinmoy, who has written and lectured on peace and offered free peace concerts.

The 11,000-mile U.S. run is part of the 70-nation Sri Chinmoy Oneness-Home Peace Run, which has been held every other year since 1987. Call 773-281-3457.
