Visitors: 3,012,171 recreational visits in 1996.
Location: 91 percent in northwestern Wyoming, extending slightly into southwestern Montana and southeastern Idaho.
Flora and fauna: Lodgepole pine, other conifers; 1,050 species of native plants. Grizzly and black bears, bison, moose, elk, wolves, coyotes among 56 species of mammals, plus 290 bird species, fish, reptiles, amphibians.
Entrance fees: $10 per vehicle; $5 for individual hiker or bicyclist (good for seven days); $20 annual permit.
