A new public works garage and other capital improvements have raised the village’s fiscal year spending limits by roughly 10 percent.

The Village Board this week unanimously passed an appropriations ordinance for the 1997-98 fiscal year of nearly $18 million. Municipal appropriation ordinances typically set spending limits above amounts budgeted.

Although routine expenditures are expected to remain stable for Orland Hills, funds are being spent for new street lights and improvements to three Recreation Department tot lots as well as the garage.

The garage will be the first permanent facility for the village’s Public Works Department. Bids are now being sought for major components of the building, which is to be constructed south of the fire station on 94th Avenue near 166th Street, according to Village Administrator John Daly.
