Because Mayor Daley has proclaimed August as Colored Pencil Month in Chicago (what’s next, Big Fat Sticks of Rainbow-Colored Sidewalk Chalk Month?), we suggest you check out the Colored Pencil Society of America’s Fifth Annual International Exhibition at the Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts, 1020 N. Dearborn Pkwy. More than 100 juried works by artists from around the globe who use the soft-textured medium will be on display. An opening reception will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday; the show runs through Aug. 28. Admission is free; call 312-642-4400.
