Edward Zucker, 77, a retired plastic surgeon , died at the Beverly Nursing Home in Laguna Hills, Calif. Thursday. Dr. Zucker was born and raised on the West Side. He died of long-term Alzheimer’s disease, said his wife, Ann Zucker. Dr. Zucker graduated from the University of Illinois Dental School in the late 1940s, and later received his medical degree. Dr. Zucker was drafted into the Army and served as captain and doctor during the Korean War doing reconstructive plastic surgery for soldiers. He received three bronze stars. In the early 1960s, Dr. Zucker was the first plastic surgeon to practice in Gary, Ind. He later moved to Munster. He specialized in facial reconstructive surgery. He moved to Laguna Hills after retiring 10 years ago. Survivors include his wife, Ann; two sons, Dr. Victor and Eric; a daughter, Amy; and a brother. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at Section E of Westlawn Cemetery, 7801 W. Montrose Ave., Norwood Park.
