Lucent to supply Ameritech: Lucent Technologies Inc. won a multimillion-dollar five-year contract from Ameritech Corp. to supply equipment for the Baby Bell’s digital wireless phone network. Lucent, the former equipment business of AT&T Corp., will provide switches, base stations and other hardware and software. The network will be based on Lucent’s flagship 5ESS switch, which can transmit voice, data, wireless, video and local and long-distance calls with one switch. Ameritech began operating its digital wireless network, called ClearPath, in Chicago last month.
