The NBA is the only one of the four major professional leagues that does not prohibit the use of marijuana as part of its basic agreement between owners and players. This sends a message that is . . . strong and clear: In the NBA, marijuana is legal. I am not going to excuse Allen Iverson for getting caught with marijuana in his automobile–I am a parent now and don’t condone or encourage the use of any illegal substance–but Iverson and other NBA players might think twice about smoking pot if the league outlawed it.
