I would like to ask the publisher and editor of the Chicago Tribune if they think readers in Lake County (for instance) do not care to be informed about what is going on locally in Chicago, Cook, DuPage, Kane and Will Counties.

Here in Lake County we get the “Lake supplement” daily that attempts to cover local news that is handled in far greater depth and detail by the local press.

Yes, I would like to read news of the entire area, which, of late, the former World’s Greatest Newspaper has conveniently ignored by substituting “local” news for what used to be comprehensive metro-area happenings. The Tribune could shine by returning to the former area-wide coverage. Suburbanites do travel between suburbs and still commute to the city, hence they have a keen interest in what transpires all around.

I thought a newspaper’s mission was to inform us of the entire world’s events, but world news, too, seems to be at a premium these days in the Tribune.
