Your July 31 editorial headlined “Human rights transcend cultures” was very appropriate.

Malaysia is an Islamic country. Anyone who has read the Koran or Hadith would know that Islam does not support democracy or human rights. In India, democracy has thrived because inherent ancient culture and values of life demand it. Any change in thinking and value systems is possible only when it arises from within. It is as true for a state as it is for an individual or society or community.

And for new ideas to go deep enough to achieve this takes time–a real long time.
