Village trustees were given a demonstration of the Civicall Citizen Response System Monday night, the village’s new computerized system for taking service requests, recording them and giving advice.

John Cumpek, village code enforcement officer, said since the system went on line in April, 1,640 service requests or complaints about some aspect of the village have been logged.

The program maintains a record of the status of each call or complaint, he said. He added that Civicall’s “expert adviser” function allows any village employee answering the phone to respond to questions for all departments by reading a screen which explains all village regulations.

Civicall has eliminated the use of hard copy files, Cumpek said. It also has been useful for keeping track of complaints and reminding village staff of due dates.

The computer system, manufactured by the Orcutt Group of Potomac, Md., also generates a letter of acknowledgment to the caller with a file number for future reference, Cumpek said.

The license fee, which includes four days of training for village staff, is $13,000 for the first year.
