Lucent to take charge: Lucent Technologies Inc. said it expects to take a fourth-quarter charge related to its $950-million purchase of Octel Communications Corp., resulting in a loss. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Lucent said the charge is related to “in-process” research and development. Lucent said it expects to take the charge when the acquisition is completed, which is expected in the fiscal fourth quarter ending Sept. 30.
