The Winfield Plan Commission postponed a decision Tuesday night on a request by Terrestris Development Co. to rezone nearly 10 acres at Winfield Road and Waterford Drive.

The proposal has been opposed by almost all the land’s neighbors, and it was believed that the Plan Commission was prepared to recommend that the proposal be rejected. But as the commission met Tuesday night. questions were raised about village documents pertaining to the site, and it was decided to delay action until those questions were resolved.

The panel now is expected to act on a recommendation at a meeting on Sept. 2.

The firm is asking that the land be removed from the village’s planned unit development agreement approved in 1978 and then rezoned to permit smaller lot sizes.

Terrestris wants to build 10 single-family homes on the site in a development to be known as Victoria Square. A smaller portion of the land would remain open and would be donated to the village for a park.

Neighbors have said during a series of public hearings that they fear water runoff, congestion and an adverse impact on property values.
