Sidney Greenberger, 79, of Glenview, a former physician at Lutheran General Hospital, died at the hospital Monday. Dr. Greenberger was born in New York City and attended the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in 1940. Four years later, he graduated from the University of Chicago Medical School. Dr. Greenberger completed his internship at Mary Immaculate Hospital in Jamaica, N.Y. He served in the Navy as a lieutenant during World War II. After returning from the military, he opened a practice in Chicago on Lake Street. During the Korean War, he also served as a commander. After the war, he opened a second practice in Morton Grove. In 1959, Dr. Greenberger was one of the original staff physicians of Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. He retired from the hospital 11 years ago. Dr. Greenberger lived in Glenview since 1960 after he moved from Skokie. Survivors includes his wife, Marion; a son, Larry; a daughter, Donna Herrmann; five grandchildren; and a brother. Visitation will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Weinstein Family Services Wilmette Chapel, 111 Skokie Blvd., Wilmette. Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
