Irwin Danoff, 91, a retired manufacturer’s representative and a nursing home volunteer, died Wednesday in his home in Evanston. Mr. Danoff was a representative for Schnadig Furniture Corp. for more than 40 years. A native of Lithuania, he immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 3. He was a resident of the West Rogers Park neighborhood for three decades and of Evanston for the last six. Mr. Danoff was a volunteer at the Buckingham Pavilion nursing home, where he was known to many as “the Candy Man.” He helped feed and comfort residents and was noted for passing out candy kisses. Survivors include two daughters, state Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Evanston) and Debby Stillerman; and six grandchildren. Services will be held at noon Friday in Piser Chapels, 9200 N. Skokie Blvd., Skokie.
