Jerry “Jack” Balaja, 68, an officer in the North Riverside Police Department for about 36 years, died Monday in his Stickney home. Mr. Balaja was a lieutenant in the police department when he retired in 1990. Mr. Balaja was a veteran of the Army’s Military Police Corps and the Illinois Police Association Tri-County Division Honor Guard. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Lustyk; a son, Jack; a sister and a grandchild. Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Kuratko Funeral Home, 2500 S. Des Plaines Ave., North Riverside. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the funeral home.
