You are to be applauded for your Aug. 6 editorial urging the end to trade sanctions against Azerbaijan.

Sanctions seem to do little to bend countries to democracy and so-called human-rights interests. In fact, in most cases they alienate feelings and force those countries to even look elsewhere for humanitarian needs at the expense of our manufacturing, marketing and technical markets, thus retarding our economic growth and export balances.

Beyond Azerbaijan, our Congress should stomp on Jesse Helms and get the sanctions against Cuba removed and start the ball rolling to turn Cuba into a capitalist country before Senor Castro turns in his time card and that country comes to the verge of another revolution.
