Fred “the Fox” Armenta, 74, of Prospect Heights, died Wednesday of cancer. Mr. Armenta, who was born March 26, 1923 in Ft. Worth, Texas, was raised in Gary, Ind. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Indiana in Bloomington, Ind., and served in the Marine Corps during World War II. Mr. Armenta recently retired from the beverage department of the Regency Hyatt O’Hare Hotel in Rosemont. Survivors include his companion of 23 years, Gloria “Dee” Dembinski; two sons, Alfred and Steven; a daughter, Diane Turnipseed; one brother; one sister; and three grandchildren. A memorial mass will be said at 11 a.m. Saturday in Blessed Sacrament Church, 1773 W. 41st St., Gary.
