John J. Bachar Sr., 56, a resident of Hoffman Estates for 27 years, died Tuesday in the Columbia Hoffman Estates Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. Born in Chicago, Mr. Bachar worked in the elevator industry for 32 years. Mr. Bachar was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the Marine Corps. He also was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 1234 and the First Aero Wing of Chicago. Survivors include his wife, Rebecca; a son, John Jr.; two daughters, Stephanie Petrow and Kathryn; his mother, Veronica Bachar; a brother; two sisters; and a grandson. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Friday in the Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W. Golf Rd., Schaumburg. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Hubert Catholic Church, 729 Grand Canyon Parkway, Hoffman Estates.
