Highland Park High School will initiate a peer-mediation program this fall, Principal Jane Gard told the Highland Park Human Relations Commission Thursday night.
During her presentation to the commission, which focused on diversity at the high school, Gard discussed the new program in which students will mediate disputes between other students.
Like similar programs at other schools, the Highland Park High School peer-mediation program will have guidelines that focus on civilized dialogue between the disputing parties.
“The other schools that have used it have nothing but good things to say,” said Gard. “It will help not only in multicultural problems, but with two kids who have been (arguing with each other) since 1st Grade.”
Gard said efforts have been made to create a more inclusive atmosphere in the school.
