Sister Bertilla Barrett, 77, who belonged to the congregation of the Sisters of Charity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, died Sunday at Northwestern Hospital Hospice. Sister Bertilla entered the Sisters of Charity, BVM in 1937. She taught at Our Lady of Angels School from 1959 to 1961 and was principal there from 1967 to 1976. She was parish minister at Holy Name Cathedral from 1977 to 1991, where she developed a Ministry of Care Program for parish volunteers to serve Northwestern University Hospital. She also taught in Southern California and Arizona. Survivors include four sisters, Mary Jorgensen, Elizabeth Hirschman, Sister Ellen Therese and Dolores Kramper. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. at John E. Maloney Funeral Home, 1359 W. Devon Ave., Chicago. Mass will be said Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Gertrude Catholic Church, 1420 W. Granville Ave., Chicago.
