Students in School District 47 will be able to keep up-to-date with the latest technology thanks to new computers that will be in the classrooms this fall.

The school board Monday approved a three-year computer lease program with KeyCorp Leasing of Cleveland.

The board had approved spending up to $450,000 for updating the district’s computer technology. Assistant Supt. Ron Miller said the district should be able to stay within its budget, even though the costs are creeping close to the maximum allowed.

The lease agreement will provide 175 desktop computers, 17 laptop computers and 12 printers for student use throughout the district’s schools.

District officials said they decided to go with a lease program because the technology is continually changing.

Volunteers are now needed to help install computer cable and wiring at the various schools. Volunteers should call the district office at 815-459-6070.
