John J. Sczepanski, 80, a native of Chicago, died Saturday at the Ventilator Support Center in Hinsdale. Mr. Sczepanski received a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Illinois at Chicago and graduated from the U. of I. in Champaign with a master’s degree in library science. He worked as a librarian for Georgetown University and the U.S. Geodetic Service. Mr. Sczepanski was a retired major in the U.S. Army, and served in World War II and the Korean War. He was in charge of a unit that was part of the UN Burial Commission in Korea, and received the Bronze Star. Survivors include two brothers and a sister. Services will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday in the Modell Funeral Home, 5725 S. Pulaski Rd. Mass will be said at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Turbius Church, 5646 S. Karlov Ave.
