A pilot program to control roaming wildlife was approved Wednesday night by the Romeoville Village Board.

Village manager Jim Smithberg said the contract with Triple R Wildlife Control will be reviewed in November.

“At this point in time, we have no previous experience (with animal control) to fall back on,” Smithberg said.

He said many residents have called to support a request for a village wildlife control policy made by a skunk-plagued resident earlier this month.

Mayor Fred Ewald said, “If we only address 50 skunks a year, that’s better than nothing.”

Smithberg said the wildlife control program will begin next week and will deal not only with skunks but also with other creatures such as opossums and raccoons.

In other business, Trustees Dennis Veselsky outlined upcoming goals for the Romeoville Economic Development Commission. The first is to set a meeting next month to review the village’s comprehensive plan.

In addition, a breakfast to acquaint developers with the community will be scheduled in March. The first developer breakfast held this year was very successful, Veselsky said.
