Talks between the village and the Illinois Department of Transportation regarding a lane reconfiguration on Palatine Road have stalled, according to a committee monitoring the proposal.
“From their last letter, I think we’re at a impasse,” Tom Ponsot, a member of the Ad-Hoc Committee on Palatine Road, told other committee members Wednesday night.
As part of a long-range plan to convert Palatine Road into an limited-access expressway, IDOT wants to increase the number of express lanes to six from four between Windsor Drive and Schoenbeck Road.
But the committee supports an alternative suggested by nearby homeowners that would keep the express lanes at four but slightly change the current configuration of the thoroughfare.
IDOT said the homeowners’ plan is feasible if all the cross streets, including Windsor and Schoenbeck are closed.
