Richard Prendergast, 86, of Bartlett, died Tuesday at Edward Hospital in Naperville. Born in Chicago’s Bridgeport neighborhood, Mr. Prendergast was a graduate of Quigley Preparatory Seminary in Chicago and also attended Mundelein Seminary. He earned a bachelor’s degree in science from Loyola University in 1934. He served in the U.S. Army in France and Germany during World War II. Mr. Prendergast was an accountant for Griffith Co. in Chicago, the construction firm that built the Monroe Street underground parking garage during the 1950s. He also was an accountant for J.C. Martin Cartage Co. in Chicago during the 1960s. He later took a position in the financial office at Quincy College, where he worked until 1977. He retired from his job as an auditor for the State of Illinois in 1979. Mr. Prendergast was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Survivors include his wife, Catherine; five sons, Gerald, Richard, Thomas, Patrick and James; three daughters, Catherine, Loretto White and Regina Hermann; 20 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Thursday, from 3 to 9 p.m., at Blake-Lamb Funeral Home, 4727 W. 103rd St., Chicago. Funeral services Friday, at 10 a.m., from the funeral home to St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 9837 Throop St., Chicago.
