Lawrence Menchetti, 54, an administrative clerk for Cook County Circuit Court for more than 33 years and a Berwyn alderman, died Tuesday in MacNeal Hospital in Berwyn following a heart attack. Mr. Menchetti was a Berwyn Township trustee from 1968 until his election as a 2nd Ward alderman in 1977. He was re-elected to a fourth term on the City Council in April. Mr. Menchetti was the founder and coordinator of Berwyn’s annual “Keeping Berwyn Beautiful” contest and a coordinator of the Neighborhood Watch program. “Politics was his life, and he always wanted to make things right,” said his sister, Marianne Cieply. “He was down to earth, for the people and for the city.” Other survivors include his fiance, Pamela Cutrone. Services for Mr. Menchetti were held Wednesday.
