Labor Day is a federal holiday. Public services affected are:

– Government offices: All federal, state, county and city offices will be closed Monday.

– Postal Service: No mail will be delivered Monday, and no post offices will be open.

– Courts: All federal, state and county courts will be closed Monday, except holiday courts.

– Banks, S&Ls: Most will be closed Monday.

– Financial markets: Most markets of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, the Chicago Board of Trade and the Chicago Stock Exchange will be closed.

– Libraries: All branches of the Chicago Public Library will be closed.

– Schools: Chicago and suburban public schools will be closed.

– Parks: Lakefront and park beaches will close for the season at 9:30 p.m. Monday. Outdoor pools will close at 5 p.m.

– Parking: Meters in Chicago need not be fed Monday.

– Transit: The CTA, Metra and Pace will operate on Sunday schedules.
