Bob Greene’s Aug. 24 column (Main news) titled “For 9 innings, the rest of the world can wait” really explained what sports and being a sports fan are all about.

He reported on minor-league baseball with the Beloit Snappers (just 90 minutes from Chicago). Teams like the Snappers still represent fun at the old ballpark at affordable prices instead of the big-bucks outings that major-league sports have become. This atmosphere can be found at many locations near Chicago. We have the Kane County Cougars and Kenosha Kroakers in baseball, the Chicago Wolves and Milwaukee Admirals in hockey, the Chicago Stingers in soccer and many others at the minor league and collegiate levels. All we need are decent schedules and coverage of these events in the sports sections so these entertainment gems can be mined.
