When the new chairman of the Lake County Democratic Party took over the post in March, he discovered that the group’s financial records were missing. Five months later, the records still haven’t surfaced.
Canceled checks, bank statements, bookkeeping ledgers–none of the standard records kept by political committees has been forthcoming, said John Petalas, the party’s new treasurer. “There was no written report turned over to me at all,” Petalas said.
James Wieser, the party’s lawyer, said he and Party Chairman Stephen Stiglich have been informally trying to obtain the records from the previous party leaders for months.
