Despite efforts by University of Wisconsin-Madison admissions staff to increase the number of minority students on campus, the freshman class contains the same 9 percent of minorities as it did last year.
The admissions office has hired two recent graduates, Janet Saiz, who is an American Indian, and Brian Dixon, who is black, to focus on minority recruitment with admissions officer Cleveland James.
