Because of a space crunch, the Lemont Park District has established new rules regarding the use of playing fields.

At least 75 percent of the members of any team using the fields must be residents of the Park District. In addition, no golfing practice will be allowed on the fields, unless it is part of a park or school district program.

The Park District also would like sports teams to submit their schedules for practice and games by January of each year. All field assignments will be on a seasonal basis and must be renewed annually. Any team using a field without written authorization will lose its field-scheduling rights.

Bob Porter, Park District director, said an increasing number of youth sports leagues has presented scheduling conflicts for the fields.
