In light of recent stories on the nation’s food supply, I’d like to reassure your readers of the ways America’s cattlemen are committed to beef safety.

Beef producers are partners in the administration’s national campaign to increase consumer awareness of safe food-handling practices. We support the modernization of the meat and poultry inspection procedures using a science-based system. And cattlemen have invested millions in research to further these systems and develop new technologies to reduce the risk of food contamination.

In addition, we will be working with the secretary of agriculture and Congress to develop any plans deemed warranted, based on sound science, that would improve U.S. meat inspection, which is already the safest in the world.
