Benjamin J. Chlevin, 77, a retired public relations executive for Associated Release Services, died Aug. 29 at his home in Libertyville. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, Mr. Chlevin lived in Libertyville the past several years. He also had lived in Buffalo Grove. During World War II, he served as a commissioned officer for the U.S. Army in Panama. Mr. Chlevin did public relations for the Chicago Park District and later the National Golf Foundation. He was the former executive director of the Golf Course Superintendents of America and had written several articles for Golfing and Golfdom magazines. Mr. Chlevin was the ghost writer for Marlin Perkins, the wildlife expert. Survivors include two daughters, Therese “Terry” Chlevin and Nancy Nestor; a brother; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation begins at 4 p.m. Friday at the McMurrough Chapel Ltd., 101 Park Place, Libertyville, with the funeral starting at 7:30 p.m.
