For the last two weeks, Glenbrook North’s soccer players had been anticipating their game against third-ranked Libertyville with increasing confidence.
Libertyville, on the other hand, was a bit too bold, according to Libertyville coach Andy Bitta.
Consequently, Glenbrook North upset the Wildcats 1-0 at the Buffalo Grove Invitational Thursday. Billy Schwab scored the lone goal for the Spartans 7 minutes into the second half.
“We’ve been waiting for this game and this tournament,” said Glenbrook North coach Rommel Guzman, whose team improved to 2-0. “This is great for our program, and the school, to beat a team like Libertyville.”
Libertyville, which had 13 shots on goal to Glenbrook North’s six, fell to 2-1.
“We just didn’t come to play until they scored,” Bitta said. “By then it was too late.”
