Howard Nicholson, 81, an award-winning commercial artist who lived in Gurnee, died Aug. 29 in St. Therese Medical Center in Waukegan. Mr. Nicholson served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He worked as a commercial artist for Hewitt and Associates in Vernon Hills and in Deerfield. Mr. Nicholson was the recipient of several awards presented by the Chicago Artists Guild. He recently showed his work at the College of Lake County, where he won several awards. Survivors include his wife, Lorain; two daughters, Diane Starr and Debra Corcoran; four grandchildren and a sister. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the Burnett-Dane Funeral Home, 120 W. Park Ave., Libertyville.
