We were fascinated with your Aug. 22 editorial titled “Bottled, bottled water everywhere” about bottling Lake Michigan water.
One night a few years ago Joel Herter, chairman of the DuPage Water Commission, handed Gov. Jim Edgar a commemorative bottle of Lake Michigan water. It was a very appropriate presentation because we understand Gov. Edgar does not drink alcoholic beverages.
The evening before the presentation, there was a formal dinner celebrating the arrival of Lake Michigan water via the City of Chicago into DuPage County. At the dinner, the waiters opened the cold bottles of Lake Michigan water, filled the participants’ champagne glasses, and everyone toasted the arrival of Lake Michigan water to DuPage County. We called it “L’eau du lac Michigan, Vintage 1992.”
After the dinner we gave away cases of unopened bottles of Lake Michigan water, so your editorial is right on target.
