Leave it to Lefty Driesell.

The colorful Georgia State basketball coach has done something for those fans “fed up” with big-time athletics.

Season-ticket holders will be refunded money for any home games the Panthers don’t win.

“When fans buy tickets, they want to get their money’s worth,” Driesell said. “Well, now we’re all in this together. If we lose, they don’t pay. It’s that simple.”

Track and field: Frank Fredericks beat Donovan Bailey again, and Merlene Ottey gained revenge against Marion Jones in the 100-meter races at the Toto Super International meet in Tokyo. Fredericks won the men’s race in 10.04 seconds, .14 seconds ahead of Bailey, the 1996 Olympic gold medalist and world record-holder. In the women’s race, Ottey, the 37-year-old Jamaican who finished a disappointing seventh at the world championships, clocked 10.83, beating Jones by .08 seconds.

Soccer: Tore Andre Flo led Norway into the World Cup finals for the second straight time with a first-half goal against host Azerbaijan. Flo scored the only goal in the 43rd minute, as the Norwegians made it to next year’s finals in France. Norway played in the 1994 finals in the U.S., but its only previous appearance was in 1938. Visiting Romania, an 8-1 winner over Liechtenstein, also qualified.

Gymnastics: Russia’s Svetlana Chorkina won her second world title in the uneven bars at the world championships in Lausanne, Switzerland. Italy’s Yuri Chechi won his fifth consecutive rings title.

Football: Zach Thomas, who missed the Miami Dolphins’ opener because of a broken leg, will be back at his middle linebacker position Sunday against the Tennessee Oilers. Thomas hasn’t played since breaking his left fibula in a preseason game Aug. 4.

Boxing: Olympic bronze medalist Floyd Mayweather improved to 10-0 as a professional stopping Louie Leija in the second round of the scheduled 10-round super featherweight bout in El Paso, Texas.
