Even if you can’t get to a personal fitness trainer, or can’t afford to book one for a house call, you still can get customized workout attention.

With Fast Fitness, New York-based trainer and fitness expert Edward Jackowski delivers personal advice on shaping up via mail.

Medical and lifestyle surveys and an assessment of a client’s current fitness routine enable Jackowski and his staff to prescribe personal training programs. Clients can follow the aerobic- and strength-training regimen at home or at a health club.

What makes Jackowski’s system unusual is that it factors in body type to maximize results. A bottom-heavy “spoon” body type, for example, should avoid stair-climbing exercise, because it builds muscles in the thighs and rear. Those with a top-heavy “cone” figure, however, can benefit from the calorie-burning effects of stair-climbing. Other moves are tailored to curvy hourglass figures and straight “ruler” silhouettes.

“The goal is to get you to look in proportion,” says Jackowski, founder of Exude, a personal training service, and a 16-year veteran of the industry.

Why turn to an off-site source for fitness advice?

Jackowski, the author of “Hold It! You’re Exercising Wrong” (Simon & Schuster, $9.95), firmly believes his approach is unique.

“Trainers are trained to bulk up their clients,” Jackowski maintains. He, instead, seeks to tone and to educate.

“It’s a learned trait, how to fit proper exercise into your lifestyle,” he adds.

Beneath the hyperbole, Jackowski’s motivation is fundamental. “The nucleus of life is when you’re in your underwear in front of the mirror, (and) if you’re happy about the way you feel, everything extends from that.”

The Fast Fitness program costs $150. For more information call 800-24-EXUDE.
