Interior renovation on nine North Shore Elementary School District 112 schools will begin when school ends in June.
A report to the board last week outlined building plans for a $50 million district-wide expansion project.
The report also detailed how additions to seven schools will begin after pupils return to school Sept. 14, 1998. Because of the construction timeline, Red Oak School will not begin construction until June 1999, board members were told.
Oak Terrace School in Highwood will be torn down after a new school is built. The new school will go up as soon as the district acquires more property neighboring the school. Work should be under way by 2000.
The district-wide construction project calls for more than 20 classrooms to be added to seven schools. There also will be new multipurpose rooms, gymnasiums and lunchrooms at some schools. Infrastructure improvements to most schools include upgrades to heating, plumbing, electrical and technology systems.
