A $7.5 million initiative to bring Elementary School District 54 schools into the 21st Century technologically is well under way.

A board presentation last week on the status of technology in the classrooms pointed out that more than 700 computers were bought last year.

Half of the district’s classrooms now have computers, according to a board report by Mary Moffitt, director of learning technologies, and Jack Rubin, director of information systems.

Twelve out of 28 schools have been wired and connected to the Internet, and users can communicate internally as well. Moffitt and Rubin said they expect all classroom computers to have access to the Internet and to each other this year.
