I was incredibly impressed by the police professionalism I observed in response to a burglary call at 8:45 p.m. Sept. 2 at Sedgwick Street and North Avenue.

While walking down the street I was informed by two young women that a man was cutting through their rear porch screen. Within seconds, many police appeared virtually out of the woodwork.

Amazingly, within minutes there were nearly 75 officers (plainclothes and uniformed), squadrols and a fire truck to apprehend the intruder.

Almost as impressive: When I finally arrived home three blocks away, noticed I was locked out and started looking for a hidden key, a policeman in an unmarked car stopped to question me about what I was doing. After I was appropriately counseled on how secret keys were a bad idea, I saw the same officers taking off in pursuit of undoubtedly another situation.

My experiences added additional comfort to the belief that the developing areas north of Cabrini-Green, including new developments such as Old Town Square and Cleveland Court, are in good hands with assistance of the Chicago Police Department. I believe I speak for all new homeowners in the area in that we appreciate their dedication and excellent work.
