The Waukegan School District 60 Board of Education voted Tuesday night to spend more than $130,000 to complete the wireless wide-area network that connects computers of different schools.
Currently, only Waukegan High School, the Waukegan Career Academy and the district’s five middle schools are linked by a wide-area network, district officials said.
The wireless wide-area network uses radio transmitters and antennas at each school to enable data transmission among computers and local area networks in each building. The system eliminates the need to tie up telephone lines to share information.
The project will be completed by Radicom Business Communications Systems of McHenry.
The first phase of the installation will be completed by the end of the calendar year and will cost $84,825, district officials said. The second phase will be installed in the spring at a cost of $45,207.
