Alan Mark Davis, 40, of Barrington, a chemical engineer and business executive, died of bone cancer Thursday in Good Shepherd Hospital, Barrington.

Mr. Davis received a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Chicago.

He was director of research and development for Quantum Performance Films Inc., of Streamwood, a plastics film manufacturer.

Mr. Davis also coached youth soccer and T-ball for several years.

He was diagnosed with bone cancer in April 1996, said his wife, Nancy. “Throughout that, he coached three soccer teams and two baseball teams,” his wife said. “He was a pretty strong guy. His great strength and courage allowed him to be so active in his children’s life.”

In addition to his wife, Mr. Davis is survived by two sons, Christopher and Mark; a daughter, Jessica; his mother, Theresa; three sisters; and three brothers.

Mass was said Saturday.
