During the Revolutionary War, Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben came to the colonies from Germany and volunteered to help George Washington train his troops.
Von Steuben’s contribution, and that of other German immigrants, will be celebrated Saturday as the Von Steuben Day Parade steps off from Wacker Drive down Dearborn Street to Van Buren Street.
The parade begins at 11 a.m. and is part of a three-day German Day Festival in Lincoln Plaza, Western, Lincoln and Leland Avenues. Admission is free.
